Finding the Schedule

When you arrive, check the welcome board for that day's programs. Weekly schedules are posted near the shower token machines, and self-guided activities can be picked up at the check-in kiosk. State Parks also lists upcoming programs on its events calendar for the park. Questions go to sandiego.interp@parks.ca.gov.

Junior Rangers (Ages 7–12)

Kids learn about the park's natural and cultural resources with an interpreter. Junior Ranger is a statewide program: complete ten Junior Ranger classes or self-guided experiences to earn the Junior Ranger sabertooth patch. Progress is tracked in a stamp book handed out at the first class.

Little Rangers (Ages 3–7)

Hands-on, age-appropriate nature activities for younger children. They work like Junior Ranger classes but do not count toward the patch.

Beachcombers Walk (All Ages)

A State Park interpreter leads a walk to look closely at what turns up on the beach, which changes from day to day. Wear good walking shoes for the cobblestones, and bring sun protection and plenty of water. For ADA accommodations, call (760) 438-3143 at least 24 hours ahead.

Education Station (All Ages)

A small brick building next to the campfire center, opened by interpretive staff during set hours. Inside are artifacts, biofacts and models to explore, and themes rotate with the seasons. Junior Rangers can earn a stamp by joining an experiment there.

Litter Getter (All Ages)

A statewide self-guided activity: kids get gloves and a paper bag, collect litter in the park, and show a State Parks interpreter or park aide their full bag to earn stickers and a certificate.

Campfire Center

The campfire center, next to the Camp Store, has accessible seating and an accessible parking stall. Groups can rent it for events; restrictions and fees apply. Email sd.specialevents@parks.ca.gov.
